Experienced Moving Company

We’re a proud moving company providing moving services to the Roanoke, VA area for more than 85 years. Through our dedication and hard work, we have been able to expand our business to the Waynesboro, VA and Greensboro, NC areas. We’re more than just a moving company. We’re a proud United Van Lines Agent. This allows us to offer the resources to handle moves of all types from corporate relocation both small and large, residential moving, and commercial moving.

Our moving storage services include; custom packing and unpacking, warehousing, and delivery. United Affiliate

In 1942 Lawrence Companies became a founding member of United Van Lines. We are still a United Agent today because of their reputation for excellence in the industry. Our partnership with United allows us to utilize their fleet so we can efficiently service our customers anywhere in the world. Sharing fleet assets allows us to offer more economical moves at the same high standard of quality and service Lawrence Moving is known for. We are regularly honored as one of United's Top Producers and Top Hauling agents.

Our Fleet

We offer an extensive fleet to accommodate any move of any size. Straight Trucks are the most commonly used moving trucks. They are box trucks that are used for the majority of local to regional moves. These trucks are also used for our home delivery and last mile service. We also have an extensive inventory of updated and safe late-model tractors.

Roll Backs

Roll back trailers are primarily used for automobile transports and the pick-up and drop-off of crated items.

Pup Trailers

Pup Trailers are our smaller trailers that allow us the ability to accomplish any move, no matter the location.

Special Commodity Trailers

These trailers are designed with dock-high trailers and side doors so the can serve dual-function as freight trailers or moving trailers.

Pack Vans

Pack Vans are also a smaller version of straight trucks and are used for smaller moves.

A History of Professional Transportation

Headquartered in Roanoke, VA, Lawrence Companies is a 100% employee-owned business with four primary divisions: Household Goods Moving and Storage, Truckload and Flatbed Freight, CASE Equipment, and Truck Service Bodies. In addition to our Roanoke location, we have additional locations in Ashland, Bridgewater, Lynchburg, and Waynesboro, Virginia as well as Greensboro, North Carolina.

1932

Lawrence Transfer and Storage is established.

Weldon T. Lawrence founded the company in Roanoke, Virginia in 1932 under the name Lawrence Transfer and Storage.

1942

Lawrence Transfer and Storage is a founding member of United Van Lines.

The Lawrence Waynesboro office when it opened.

1972

Lawrence Companies opens a second operations center with a custom warehouse and office facility in Waynesboro, Virginia.

1985

Facility Opens in North Carolina

Due to steady growth and acquisitions in the North Carolina region, an additional location was opened in 1985 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

2004

Company Reaches 100% Employee Ownership

In 2004, Lawrence Companies was sold to its employees adding us to the short and prestigious list of 100% employee-owned companies.

3 Locations, International Presence

Today, Lawrence Companies is still headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia with its Waynesboro, Virginia and Greensboro, North Carolina divisions also in full operations. We continue to grow through our dedication and commitment to continue to innovate the moving and storage industry.
